It has been a minute since I last updated my blog. I am so thrilled to have been included in a couple of new shows recently, and I’m also preparing for the West Medford Open Studios, an art fair in Medford, MA, to be held on June 22.

This image was included in the Spring 2024 Show at The Curated Fridge, with the theme “Cinematic”, juried by Panopticon Gallery owners Alexa Cushing and Connor Noll, who are both accomplished artists as well.
For those who have never heard of The Curated Fridge, it is probably one of the most famous refrigerator in the world (if not the most). It is the brainchild of artist Yorgos Efthymiadis, who invites art gallery and museum curators to jury different shows throughout the year. Applicants do not need to pay a fee–they only need to submit JPGs and snail-mail in small prints. It is an absolutely brilliant idea, and it is so wonderful of Yorgos to create these opportunity for the fine art photography community. The show from the fridge will move to a wall at Panopticon Gallery at the Hotel Commonwealth near Fenway Park for an in-person reception.

One of my favorite pieces I created last year, “Me” in Red, White, and Blue, was selected into the 2024 Danforth Annual Juried Exhibition at Danforth Art Museum in Framingham, MA (jurors Marie Craig, Keri Straka, and Noelle Fournier). This piece expresses my sense of self as an American of Chinese descent. The blue is a cut-out of a self-portrait in cyanotype, while the background is made of a name seal of my Chinese name. It is the second time this piece has been selected this year for inclusion into juried shows.
Finally, the West Medford Open Studios is something I have to do a lot of prep work for. It is another thing that’s pushing me out of my comfort zone. I had attended over a decade ago when it was held inside artists’ home studios. Now it is an outdoor event at a park. I just got a 10″x10″ canopy and realize how it is not a one-person job to set up. I will have to think of a solution and get help!
I will give an update next week! Have a great weekend!
